Crazy!

The NCAA basketball action this weekend has been crazy. Three of the four games went to OT. Illinois beat AZ, Louisville beat W Virginia and Michigan State beat Kentucky in three of the best games a fan could hope for. I've also watched a lot of college hockey and lacrosse. Posted by Hello

Veep

This morning we went for a hike with Jill and the Honeycutts. Gary has decided to run for president of the WFPA board. That means I have to run for vice-president. At least it will be less hectic than being treasurer.

Good Dog

Stimpy, our 13 year old miniature pinscher died last night. She woke us up Friday morning at 4:30 with very bad seizures. She got worse as the day went on. Our vet took Stimpy home with him last night after we visited Stimpy. He had to put her down at about 2am. Shortly before 2am the pilot light on our heater went out. I believe that was when she made that final bad turn.

Weird things like that happen.

Stimpy was a funny little dog. She played like a puppy even on her last normal night. We loved her a lot and she gave us a lot of love back. We have a lot of great memories and pictures.

She was my first dog. Joellyn and I got Stimpy about two months after Joellyn moved in with me in 1992.

Fire School

I finished my 231 class today. All of us from Walker were burnt out from the classes. I'm looking forward to getting back into the NCAA tourney tonight.

Test

My 230 Crew Boss class ended today with a miserable test but somehow I got a 90%. Yikes.

The classes really wear me out because I have to think about things that are not second nature. A lot of my real job is second nature and so much easier for me.

Stretched Thin

The fire training is stretching me very thin this week. The class I am in is tough and does not really fit with what Walker Fire needs. The scope of the class is much greater than the scope of we do in Walker.

Hopefully I can pass the test tomorrow.

Arizona Wildfire Academy

Today was our first day for our Crew Boss/Engine Boss class. There are five of us from Walker Fire taking the class.

It turns out we should not be taking the class. We are missing several prerequisite classes, so we are behind most of the other people in the class. Also we are missing updated fireline hand books and pocket guide. We are out of date and look like Gomer's. Oh well.

I Tivo'd the basketball games. I did not miss much excitement but I have to say that my bracket has never been worse than it is from this year's tourney.

BC Loses

BC lost to Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a close game that had a lot hustle on both sides. UWM's coach is Bruce Pearl, who knew? BC is out and my other teams, Hawaii and SDSU, didn't make it this year. Posted by Hello

Directv

Although Joellyn doesn't know it yet I ordered the sports pack add-on. I was puzzled when a National League Lacrosse game was blacked out. I tried on two different phone calls to get an explanation of what I get to watch and watch I don't and no one there knows, or at least I haven't found a phone rep that knows.

Snow!

We were supposed to have a practice for our Pack Test today but we were snowed out! We've got two inches on the ground so far.

Bucknell!

I don't know what is bigger. Vermont/Syracuse or Bucknell/Kansas. This was one of the best first rounds I've ever seen. Posted by Hello

BC beat Penn and I am watching a great finish between UTEP and Utah. I picked UTEP.

Welcome

This is my other blog.

I maintain an investment related blog that is fairly popular called Random Roger's Big Picture. This blog will be everything but investing, just some interesting (to me) thoughts about goings on here in rural Arizona, wildfire activity, sports and whatever else might pop up.

I enjoy writing. Hopefully the three of you that find this sight will be amused.

I am deep into the NCAA hoops tourney. Watching college basketball is, to me, one of life's great joys.

More later, I just wanted to get the sight up and running.
