John Olerud

John Olerud is now on the Red Sox and he is wearing Freddy Lynn's old number 19. Wow.

More Lacrosse

I have been wrapped up in the D-1 lacrosse championships this weekend. I did not realize that the D-2 and D-3 championships are this weekend too.

I'm watching Middlebury and Salisbury in the D-3 game right now. The D-2 final is later with Limestone vs the NY Institute of Technology. The action in all lacrosse is very intense. It is pure effort and sport. Good stuff.

3 Doors Down?

Totally random. I flipped over to the Indy 500 for a minute and I saw 3 Doors Down singing what I believe was their first hit, Kryptonite, before the racer introductions. I'm not sure which is the stranger thing; that it was 3 Doors Down singing at the race or that the race fans loved them. I'm no music person but I really like the Kryptonite song.

Full Day

This morning was the annual meeting for the Walker Fire Protection Association. This is our local volunteer fire department. My wife and I are firefighters and for the last two years I have served on the board as treasurer. As of this morning's meeting I am now the vice-president. This will result in much less work. This is good because my real job is getting busier.

The new treasurer can't start for a while so I have to wear both hats for the time being.

The other big thing today was the NCAA lacrosse semi-finals. Duke blew out Maryland and Johns Hopkins beat Virginia in overtime. The JHU/UVA game was very exciting, even compared to other OT games. The final is on Monday.

Since I am borrowing a computer I don't have the software to add pictures to the blog right now. I will add some later.

Lots O Lax

This weekend had some great college lacrosse action. Since I am borrowing a computer I don't have access to the software needed to post pictures on the blog.

About the computer; I was able to get all of the stuff for Walker Fire off of the computer for our annual review but still have to get personal things like pictures and some documents off of there with very little battery time to work with when the new computer arrives.

Digital Vagabond

My computer is just about dead. Until my new Dell arrives I must rely on the kindness of neighbors. Most of the people in Walker know me and how much I need a computer to function. Several people have offered use of a computer one way or another.

Training

This morning began our training for our South Rim to North Rim in one day (22 miles) hike in October. We hiked for about six miles at a good clip. This picture is from when we did this hike in 2003. We did not get to do it last year because the group we hike with all bailed out. From now until October we will do a six to twelve mile hike every Sunday to get ready. Between the hikes, the yoga and the firefighting we should be just fine by October.Posted by Hello

More V And Some Introspection

In this picture they really are that high. Seeing all this volleyball recently makes me think about my days as a player. For a couple of summers in college I played beach volleyball full time. I could have pursued a move into coaching which would have meant years of financial sacrifice and a totally different life. Life is offers us a few pivotal decisions, this may have been one of mine. Pepperdine Wins It!

Pepperdine beat UCLA in five for the NCAA volleyball championship. I don't recall getting up quite this high back in my days playing on the beach. The hitter is not as high as he appears, he is hitting from behind the three meter line. Posted by Hello

"Not in My House"

Toodie chases Tater Tot all over. Supposedly Toodie tormented a rotweiler in a similar manner at her last home (we've only had Toodie for 14 months). Posted by Hello

Peace and Harmony

Clearly Kramer and Toodie haven't quite warmed up to Tater Tot. Joellyn got a whole bunch of shots in mid snarl. Posted by Hello

NCAA Volleyball II

There have been exceptions but having gone to school in southern California I can't see how eastern schools can compete. Posted by Hello

NCAA Volleyball

I got to watch the NCAA volleyball semi-finals. In the first semi UCLA beat Penn State. Pepperdine beat Ohio State in the other semi. Posted by Hello

Tater Tot Update

Tater Tot won her bout with parvo and is back home with us. Good news. Our other dogs still aren't too fond of her but they are all working it out.

Parvo

Tater Tot has parvo. She presented symptoms this morning when I got up. Joellyn got her to the vet by 8am. We could not have acted any faster. The vet thinks she will pull through because we hopped on it so quickly. While she may or may not pull through we reacted quickly which gives her the best chance.

This could be an emotional few days for us.

Arizona Sting

The Arizona Sting, of the National Lacrosse League came from a four goal deficit to upset the Calgary Roughnecks last light in the NLL West Semifinals.

I love watching Lacrosse. The Sting come from behind to win a lot. This is something I can learn from. It is never over until it is over. I'm not sure I believed in that enough when I was younger but have matured into that mind set. This important to me, anyway, having come from a family that is not optimistic enough.
