Thugeration

Announcers Dave O'Brian and Marcelo Balboa (who attended San Diego State at the same time I did, I did not know him though) spent the entire game gushing over this guy, French midfielder Zinedine Zidane, and he closes out his career pulling a Kermit Washington by head butting Marco Materazzi in the chest during overtime.

Mahoning Valley Hitmen?

This is the banner for the Mahoning Valley Hitmen of the Eastern Indoor Football league.

It looks like Maurice Clarett will suit 'em up for the Hitmen for their winter 2007 season. If I read correctly this will be the league's inaugural season. According to the EIFL website there are only three teams, the Hitmen, the Bayshore Brawlers and the ThreeRivers Rats.

I actually just spoke to the coach of the Hitmen (no kidding) and he said that there will be three more teams announced shortly.

In general terms I think this sort of thing is great. It allows guys to pursue their dreams a little longer and it brings professional sports to smaller cities.

Prescott Valley, near where I live, is getting a minor league hockey team called the Arizona Sundogs. There are very few big cities that can handle four professional sports team like Phoenix tries to do but there are plenty of cities that can handle one minor league team.

Tour de France 2006

Well they blew it up!

Ivan Basso, Jan Ullrich and a couple of other biggies were punted from tour by there own team managers for being named in emails that have something to do with doping.

Guilty or innocent is not for me to say but cycling continues to be a wild sport.

I love watching the tour for the scenery and the action.
