Red Auerbach
I was saddened to hear that Red Auerbach passed away last night at 89. I grew up in Boston and Red was revered as a legend for his coaching in the 1950's and 1960's.In my time I saw him as an executive, engineering dynasty re-building trades. The most famous of course was trading the rights to who turned out to be Joe Barry Carroll aka Joe Barely Cares to Golden State for Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish. McHale had made a name for himself at the University of Minnesota but Parrish went from obscurity in the Bay Area to perennial all-star with the Celts.
As a lifelong Celtics fan, Red, thank you for what you gave to the game, the Celtics and to the city of Boston.
