Mahoning Valley Hitmen?
This is the banner for the Mahoning Valley Hitmen of the Eastern Indoor Football league.It looks like Maurice Clarett will suit 'em up for the Hitmen for their winter 2007 season. If I read correctly this will be the league's inaugural season. According to the EIFL website there are only three teams, the Hitmen, the Bayshore Brawlers and the ThreeRivers Rats.
I actually just spoke to the coach of the Hitmen (no kidding) and he said that there will be three more teams announced shortly.
In general terms I think this sort of thing is great. It allows guys to pursue their dreams a little longer and it brings professional sports to smaller cities.
Prescott Valley, near where I live, is getting a minor league hockey team called the Arizona Sundogs. There are very few big cities that can handle four professional sports team like Phoenix tries to do but there are plenty of cities that can handle one minor league team.
